피터 (Peter) series

제목의 ‘피터(Peter)’는 해당 사물들의 명칭이 아니다. 또한 고유명사나 이름으로 기능하지는 않는다. 제목이라는 언어로는 눈 앞의 오브제를 이해할 수 없다. 이러한 단절은 사물 본연의 무의미함을 드러낸다. 작품은 관람자가 감각을 통해 자체적으로 만들어내는 맥락과 의미를 갖게 된다.
오브제들은 모두 어딘가 본 적이 있는 형상과 물성을 떠올리게 만든다. 나무판은 내리막길처럼 한쪽이 기울어져 있고 그 기울임을 따라가다 보면 커다란 초록색 드럼통으로 된 <Peter2>가 시선을 제지한다. 그 위에 얹어진 합판은 마치 시소처럼 균형이 한 쪽으로 치우쳐 있다. 땅바닥에 닿아 있는 합판을 따라 드럼통의 뒷면으로 가면, 마주 보는 위치에 있는 <Peter1>을 은근히 가린다. 사람의 골반 정도의 높이인 <Peter3>은 시멘트로 된 벽에 연결된 것처럼 세워져 있고, 작은 찰흙으로 된 <Peter4>는 무언가 꽂혀있었던 모양대로 굳어있다. 매끈하고 단단하게 휘어있는 <Peter10> 너머로 벽을 따라 놓여있는 <Peter8>은 기울어진 채 동선을 앞뒤로 연결하는 구조물인데, 서로 낀 채 결합을 유지하고 있다. 쇠로 된 울타리와 걸려있는 금속성 집게로 구성된 <Peter5>은 일상 속 매달려있던 사물들을 떠올리게 한다. 전시장의 천장에 노출된 수도관 위에 얹어진 길쭉한 연통인 <Peter7>은 본연의 모습을 잃은 채 납작하게 찌그러져 있으며, 뒤로는 관객의 시야를 가로막듯이 위치한 펜스 형태의 <Peter9>가 보인다.
전시장 복도에 늘어져 있는 조형물은 그 자체로는 무용하고, 모호해 보인다. 대상들은 변형되어 있거나, 어딘가 파손되어 있기도 하며, 결합이 느슨하거나, 균형이 잡혀 있지 않다. 각 사물들에게 어떠한 기능을 기대하기는 어려워 보인다. 그저 그 사물의 물성을 보유한 채 그 자체로 자리할 뿐이다.

The title "Peter" is not the name of the object. Also, it does not function as a proper noun or name. I can't understand the object in front of me in the language of title. Such disconnects represent the inherent meaninglessness of things. The work will have a context and meaning that viewers create on their own through their senses.
All objects remind us of shapes and physical properties that we have seen somewhere. The wooden board is tilted on one side like a downhill slope, and along the slope, a large green drum <Peter2> stops looking. The plywood placed on it is balanced to one side like a seesaw. If you go to the back of the drum along a plywood touching the ground, <Peter1> at a position facing each other is secretly hidden. The height of a person's pelvis, <Peter3>, is set up as if it were connected to a cement wall, and the <Peter4>, made of small clay, is hardened as if something had been stuck in it. <Peter 8>, which is placed along the wall beyond the smooth and tightly bent <Peter 10>, is a structure that connects the lines back and forth while being tilted, but maintains the connection while being sandwiched between each other. The <Peter5> consisting of an iron fence and metal tongs hanging from it reminds me of objects hanging in my daily life. Peter 7, a long and narrow connection placed on a water pipe exposed on the ceiling of the exhibition hall, is flattened without its original appearance, and a fence-shaped "Peter 9" positioned to block the audience's view can be seen behind it.
The sculptures lined up in the hallway of the exhibition hall look useless and ambiguous in themselves. The target is deformed, damaged somewhere, loose or unbalanced. It seems difficult to expect some function from each object. However, it is only located in itself while maintaining the physical characteristics of the object.
